Leadership that starts with awareness

At the heart of effective leadership sits awareness — of self, others, and the environment you are leading within.

In an increasingly technological and fast-paced working world, leaders are required to navigate complexity, pressure and constant change. Developing awareness across these three areas creates the foundation for presence, sound judgement, meaningful connection and effective leadership.

My approach to leadership development supports leaders to strengthen this awareness and reconnect with their whole selves — not just their roles — so they can lead with clarity, authenticity and humanity.

A human-centred approach to leadership development

This work is grounded in the belief that leadership is not something you perform, but something you embody.

We achieve this by deepening our awareness of self, others and environment (our context).

SELF

Effective leadership starts with the 'Inner Game'.

Who are you really, beneath the role you play? By developing self-awareness — beliefs, patterns, emotions and values — leaders gain clarity, presence and confidence

that shapes how they show up and lead others.

OTHERS

Leadership is relational.

Understanding others means seeing different perspectives, recognising emotions and navigating personality.

This work builds empathy and awareness, so leaders communicate with sensitivity, adapt their approach and connect meaningfully.

ENVIRONMENT

Leadership also lives in the 'Outer Game'.

Understanding environment means reading context — business goals, personal goals, team goals, function, process, systems and skills. This work develops awareness of complexity and how things really operate, so leaders can act with clarity, sound judgement and impact.

When a leader works consciously with these three areas they learn to:

  • Understand their own patterns, strengths and blind spots

  • Read the people around them and adapt their leadership accordingly

  • Sense the emotional, relational and contextual dynamics at play

  • Lead with greater presence, confidence and authenticity

Leadership development here is not about fixing what’s “missing”, but unlocking what is already present — and learning how to access it consistently.

What the work can include

Leadership development journeys are tailored, but may include:

  • Self-awareness & leadership identity
Understanding who you are as a leader, beyond your title or role

  • Awareness of others
Understanding different personalities, motivations and ways of working

  • Environmental awareness
Reading context, culture, power dynamics and organisational systems

  • Presence & impact
Developing gravitas, confidence and embodied leadership presence

  • Human connection & influence
Building trust, empathy and connection with others

  • Communication & storytelling
Expressing ideas clearly, authentically and in ways that resonate

  • Purpose-led leadership
Clarifying personal and organisational purpose and leading from it

  • Leading under pressure
Regulating nerves, handling challenge and staying grounded in high-stakes situations

This work can take place one-to-one or with leadership groups and teams, in person or virtually.
